Hmm.. are we allowed to the comic by editing backgrounds and sprites, or is the requirement literally to act it out through screenshots?

as long as it is using ro stuff then it's anything goes. As you can see in the example mobs that aren't even on that map are in there, and it is edited partially. So as long as it's using ro related stuff then you're good. But no bringing in a gundam to be in your "comic", you could say use a mob in game; however, to be a gundam wannabe.
