Ok that was sorta painful to read having just woken up but you are wrong, the strategy, trying to out think your opponents is still a huge part of magic, the problem is not so much the cards but the internet. People don't build their own decks anymore, they look up a deck that a famous deck builder or player has used then take it for themselves. So many people do this that certain cards start getting bought in bulk causing a price rise.

Now its at the stage that people are so busy building MetaDecks and Decks that counter metadecks. That a certain card pool will raise in value stupidly. Everyone will be so caught up in the cardpool they tend to forget other cards and strategy exist, even going as far as insulting anyone who changes from it.

Then their are the real players of magic, who build a deck they love, use cards they feel are best for them regardless of its price range and generally are the ones who win tournaments.

People keep comparing Magic to YuGiOh these days as Yugioh was effected by *The Net* much faster then magic was.

Lastly. I play magic with my group weekly. And I find it just sad you wont even play the game, no wonder your not finding any of the complex plays you can make your not even looking. Ignore the meta, build a deck and play the game and you will see what I mean.

P.S I built a 30$ Emeria, The Sky Ruin deck using Kor Elements...Its came first second and forth at my local FNM. Against 200$ Jund Decks and Baneslayer Angels. Oh and DBZ The Card game is much more complex then Pokemon.

Also, Yugioh is a great game to play aswell.

^ that.

I agree completely

Yugioh is a game of a much different strategy type than Magic.
Once you understand that you can make a good Yugioh Deck probably (or at least a playable one).

I don't run a metadeck period. There are a few like me at the hobby shop I go to, but more run a metadeck (or a modified version of one).

I myself prefer my mono-white control and remove deck. That, or my blue/white modified Flyover deck.

LoL - I didn't know there was a Magic thread.??xp

I haven't played since Job Corps but I have a Merfolk deck, Kavu/Equipment deck and a Vampire deck which makes for a nice hour-long game against my friend's dragon deck (which I generally win No1 ).

I just bought the Worldwake set when I got back but I don't know why since I don't have anyone to play with anymore.??xD

RE: Magic the Gathering - Magister Magi - 04-08-2010 11:18 PM

Vampire decks annoy the crap out of me. The bad thing for me is that my deck is still too slow to effectively beat them until 4th turn or later (unless I can pull out an Everflowing Chalice in my opening hand).

The Worldwake set? o.o So you bought a complete set or did you mean a booster box?

I'm getting ready for the Rise of the Eldrazi Pre-Release next weekend.

I bought the big box set for $35. Extremely disappointing. I got a bunch of the same damned commons. =/
Huge waste of money. Cry

RE: Magic the Gathering - Seth~ - 04-09-2010 01:03 AM

Agree the vampire deck looks a bit wasted. My magic decks ranges from blue black spirit and arcane deck, black demonic deck, life gaining + sanguine blood. But i still can not beat my friends elf deck. PS. once he had like 30k+ life.

Cry

Sorin Markov does not care about your piddly 30k life as he sucks it away to 10. >_>...

Wait why is black struggling with Elves anyway? Play Mutilate in mono black and make the elves cry. Also play innocent blood or whatever and laugh more at the elf deck.

RE: Magic the Gathering - Magister Magi - 04-09-2010 08:34 AM

It depends on what kind of elf deck it is. I was thinking of building one, and someone I know told me that there's different kinds of elf decks (sadly, I forget which ones he mentioned xD).

I pity Sorin when I Celestial Purge or O-Ring him. xD
