Does anyone need help writing a story? - SeifuSnow - 03-17-2010 Hi guys. Human here. Was just passing through as I was writing my English 081 midterm report, and I thought to myself (as I reflected on the many compliments I'd received for previous writings), "Perhaps I should just ask people if they want help?" So here I am. I'm willing to help anyone that needs help in writing their stories or by providing critique; I'll provide constructive criticism for any works currently being worked on or already completed, free of charge. I like to read and I like to write; I like to think and help people, so why not incorporate all of them into a positive activity? Anyways, just send me a PM on the forums or ask for Human on in-game @main if you have any questions, comments, or if you would like to apply for my services! ======= WHO LIKES GETTING WRITER'S BLOCK?! :D Well, here are some ideas to cure you of that most loathed sickness~ //Like a star in the night, your character has latched onto something for guidance and decided to follow it. The question of whether this is the right star or the right path is what gives this tension. //What's your character's greatest skill, something they'd never screw up in a million years? Now have them do it wrong, horribly wrong, and describe the repercussions. //If your character has acquired some reward, have it make them become static, comfortable, rigid. Now destroy that foundation, or use their inflexibility against them. //An artist, writer, gambler or other character must surrender to the power of the unconscious to achieve their goal. This can be complicated either because they are very logical (so it is difficult) or because surrendering will border on insanity and loss of control. //Your character becomes a hermit. Perhaps they have locked themselves in their room with a pile of library books or perhaps they have moved into a remote cabin off the grid. Other humans become an annoyance. //Isn't everyone more interesting with a criminal record? //Your character gets defensive, edgy, paranoid. Maybe for good reason. //Did you know that your character has a phobia of open spaces? Well, they do. //Enter: carnivorous plant(s). //Introduce a character that is dangerous, smart, and slightly sociopathic. //Secrets create a wall between your characters and create suspense about what will be revealed, when. Inject some secrets into your story. //You have too many characters. Time to kill one off. //Addiction can take a number of forms: pills, powder, Pokemon, porn...take your pick. //Sometimes your characters greatest enemy is his/herself. Something is tempting them that they lack the willpower to resist. //Incorporate a nursery rhyme as a metaphor that describes your conflict. Trust me, they're all much darker and and more terrible than you remember. //That secret video tape your character made with their lover is totally hot. You know because random dude on the internet just told you so. RE: Does anyone need help writing a story? - Session - 03-17-2010 1st.
