Interesting map indeed. It's disheartening to see that 75~80% of the country is doing it wrong. Icon_wink

Yes.??It is.?? It's called soda because of something that has to do with sodium bicarbonate or something like that.??What they use or used to use in carbonating the soda.

It's called soft drinks because a "hard" drink is one with alcohol in it.??XP

And of course we call it Coke because of the name brand.??Just like frisbee, velcro and yoyo.??Icon_razz

Pop is just silly.??Mad

And, Krim - please keep unrelated topics out of my threads.??kthx

Actually I only refer to them genericly as "soda". "Coke" is ruled out as a generic term for me since I use it to mix with hard liquor on occasion. Not really a soft drink at that point.

And 'pop' is either an onomatopoeia (say that 5 times fast x_x) or a reference to your father. Icon_razz

Also, Krim's chart was clearly related. He used the word correlation and everything! Icon_suprised

Sorry to be Canadian! But we say Pop here if you say soda your bound to get a 'sparkling water' or soda water :p nasty stuff.

Don't hate on the way we where raised ;p

Altho to be fair I tend to ask for the type of 'soda'. So a pepsi or sprite.

I just posted what I call it without realizing I already did that!??Thought I only posted the map.??XP

Blue, I wouldn't walk into a store and say "gimme a soda!"??I'd tell them what kind I want!??XP

*edit

I also call it "shoda" when I'm trying to be funny. XP

The comparison was between the red area in the first map, designating people who call soft drinks 'coke' and the obesity rate.
