I feel it important to note that whoever the buyer is will not be able to change the item currently farmed by the bee wings until they do the quest themselves, in which case they'll get their own pair.

Exactly, the wings will only drop honey (not even royal honey). They're purely for looks at this point so I don't think its even worth the 10+mil or 150 points for gm service much less the service + expensive items on your wishlist.

Except that was when it's like half a year before it's released, so it had the novelty of completely unobtainable status. At one point aquaring hat got sold for 23m for the same reason when it was only given out by GMs in daily events, 1 at a time.

Actually, I don't know where you got that information from because they sold for 30mil that one time they were auctioned. I should know because I'm the one who won them.
Except my 30mil wings came with quest completion once the quest was available, a few months of exclusivity (like Namine said), and the effect was going to be a surprise at the time.
