I am surprised that no one here has mentioned that SAO is chock full of RO References.

For instance, the ''first armor'' that everybody wears in the first episode shares a deep resemblance with the Novice outfit.

And that Silica tamed Pina by giving it is favorite food, just like a tame item. Not to mention that Pina had a low-power healing skill which aided her (sorta reminds me of Sohee's skill).

I'm sure there are more references in it.

Nope, rather... some MMOs have those mechanics on them too so I wouldn't say that the creator of SAO would have taken all of it from RO. For example, I can argue that the random events in Guild Wars 2 have been referenced for SAO's event quest. I can also argue about how SAO took the 'dying into pixels' from .hack/sign. But that is because those became general things to MMO players which creators of many fields (game designers, artist, writers) used called 'familiarity'.

I can tell you for sure though that the creator did some research and probably played alot of MMOs from just analyzing the anime. Creating stories isn't easy since people tend to compare stuff like scenes with other similar scenes.

That's funny considering it's a Japanese TV show blocked in Japan.. Hah.

I do think that they blocked because of copyright

RE: MMORPG Animes to Watch - Story Teller - 12-12-2014 04:34 AM

Well, each nation has their own copyright laws. A good example is youtube where some videos can't be accessed in other regions and another example are game consoles having a certain region code attach to disc that prevents the console to read the disc. Although there are ways around it like making your IP be another IP from another country using softwares or custom firmwares. ;D
