although it is never expressed anywhere within the bill, i imagine it only applies to the USA and not to any other country, otherwise there could be a huge war on obama's hands, not that there wouldn't be a huge war anyway within the country itself.

with the forced upgrade to digital television, those that chose not to get the converter box or upgrade to cable now only have 2 means rather than 3 to get the news, radio and newspaper, but since this would only happen during an emergency state, then newspaper would be out of the question, meaning radio is now those people's only form of news/media.

the question of how the shut down of the American net will effect everyone else comes into play....

if you shut down the net in america that's a lot of websites that go down

If this passes, in case of emergency or critical situation Americans will have no choice but to get their information from the media such as tv and the radio, and they will say whatever the government wants them to say.

Pretty sure if that were the case, I would still be in chains right now. Even before the internet, we found ways to communicate through the mainstream media before it was televised, so we can do it again.
Americans,A good bit of them, rebelled against the media so things could change, and that was before the internet.

Yea, internet is HEAVILY relied on americans right now, but it won't kill us all if its gone.
Im not saying that I agree with w/e bill might be passed(probally not) but I see why something like that would come up.
A good bit of people don't have any access to the internet and they have no way of getting to the library. And yet (from what ive seen) the media doesn't affect them as much.

An example is the group the black panthers. This group was made from different people that had the same ideals about the way he country was being run. They weren't influneced by the media at all, infact they rebelled against it, and used it as a weapon. They had no internet to look it up how malcom X got his way of thinking or, how

Theirs many groups/people that have made impacts in history, that rebelled against the media before the times of the internet. I just chose that one because I was in the mood 2.

People don't even take the time to research about what goes on in the world today when they have the Internet In Their Face. Do you think that will change when they have no internet?

Still, getting rid of the internet for good is a drastic measure, I don't really like it, but I view it as a back up plan just incase someone manages to do something that will harm everyone in some kind of way.

This is coming from a person who's use to having is internet cut off for not paying a bill or computer problems so meh.

A big worry though that I have about this is that if (even though it probably won't) this gets passed, alot more jobs/businesses will be in jeopardy.

Lol as far as info flow is concerned I always knew big brother was watching.
(they really are though) The gov knows what goes on in the internet, but its up to them to choose if its a threat, or if its just something smallfry. And if hes thinking what I'm thinking, he see's something that might could happen and is going to try and shut it down before it does anything. We Can't See everything they can, so (to me) I can't really judge this call.

A good bit of people have done international crimes using via internet as there tool, so if something happens that affects us globally, he can have that info control.
But w/e we all got our opinions, I won't bust down anyone elses.

lol the thing is though the internet cannot be properly moderated, so to remove its influence from people it has to be removed

as for the media control, well we already have that there's things like the PAB (public affairs bureau) which already has the power to collect, monitor, and if given the permission because of some kind of extreme measure, censor any media they think needs to be censored

really the only thing obama doesn't have the power to completely control in the time of a crisis IS the internet (and what people think xD but im sure their working on solving that lol)
with the PAB monitoring the media, the war measures act (not sure if its called that in the US), and things like marshal law the government looks like its aiming to have the power to completely control what information people are given

|_ Win comment, totally agree. Socialism actually bothers me though and I hope our country doesn't become a socialist one with the years Obama is in office. I do not think as a whole this is what our country really wants...is it?
