We tried character direct involvement last year and that didn't work out too well... cause seems like there's bit of a 'misconception in the difference between RPing and "write an anime plot! heRO GMs will produce it for you!"
RPing is for your character to interact within a fictional world, not so much to program a fictional world to reach out of its way to find you =(
I think we are more "RO with a story" than "RO RP" now... that's probably a more suitable and realistic description for the server. It'll probably stay this way until we escape the anime mindset, at least just a little.
Now people have proposed plenty of events before and you see a few of them used, such as the major arc of last year with Muspelheim and earlier this year's small Change of Season arc with Levia Lusca is a modification and refined work of a player submitted proposal. Just that most of them are great in idea, but little plans in how to actually carry it out.
We also have a few rare occassions where events sprung out purely depending on the topic of @main and if a GM is online. If for some reason the circumstances of @main make it possible, 100% improvised event occur (such as a long time ago, Oniichan's little dilemma with no butterfly wing in a dungeon sprung an event all revolving around a 'Legendary Creamy')

In forums, the two are indeed quite mixed XD; usually for me, I post in L/D if there's an event and move them to RP/Story after the event itself is over.
