Video/Screen Recording and Editing

It's been a long time since I've done any video recording or editing but what are people using nowadays for screen capture/recording, livestreaming and editing(Splicing, cutting, effects, etc.)? Are there any free or cheap programs you can use? Yes I know I'm a cheap ass.

Also is there a way to convert the HeRO replays into any one of the movie files accepted on Youtube(.avi, .mpeg, etc.). Thinking of creating some videos to help friends and showcase HeRO.

It's fairly popular as a powerful livestreaming tool for streamers on sites like Twitch.tv (I think) but you can definitely use it for recording your screen as well.

As for editing, not sure about free options.

Conversion: I don't think it's possible to convert replay files but I might be wrong. I'm fairly sure people like Roger does it by screen recording their replay as it's being played on client, which actually isn't really a conversion.

I make the client replay, then record the replay with Camtasia8 and export it in .mp4 for YT.
I dont know how to directly convert a replay file into a video x_x or if its possible at all...
