Cosmetic: changes that give you no sudden advantage compare to another player who did no such cosmetic change, or at best nearly neglect-able results.
Example of pure cosmetic: aura changes, skin changes, BGM changes
Example of neglect-able results (or downright self-nerfing: looking at you, mounted royal guard): 3rd class sprite pack
Non-Cosmetic is obviously, anything that gives a player an advantage in gameplay via "sprite modding."
Most Game-changing non-cosmetic example: "HWSB mod"
How to detect: it's glaringly obvious if someone's using HWSB. Their fighting performance changes *that much* how the naked eye and untrained everyday player can tell something is *so wrong* with HWSB.
Most of the time, non-cosmetic changes just don't make sense and you really see it as something odd... but the more subtle ones like changing all MvPs to Detales... sadly, you really can't tell. Gravity client is an ancient gameplay machine and is subjected to certain levels of low-lying abuse (thankfully, all pvp potential changes are detectable by GM via #itemlist 99% of the time)
