hum, i like this nobility event idea but i do hope non nobles can play too.
just a semi-un/related sidenote:
in those days unranked knights simply serve as a soldier. they have enough plot of land to sustain a small personal band of retaineers. commoners on the other hand serve as free lance fighters, men-at-arms, etc. then u have gendarmeries, a system of mercenary company of fighters.
of course those with the fiefdom can do what they soever please with their alloted land as long as they comply with the contract that grant them the fiefdom to begin with. eg. e fixed number of soldiers on demand or a fixed ammount of supplied per year, etc.
to make the long story short for each level of heirachy in the feudal system, there is a give and receive exchange depending on the want and needs of individuals in the heirachy. the higher ups have more to give then those below them since they can only give what is theirs.
so in example:
prince owns enough fief for 5 knights,
duke/duchess enough for 4 each,
count/countess 3,
and
baron/baroness 2
now to the game related part:
i hope we do not move into the feudal system of governement. i like the current one which i name "the benevolent democratic republic" system with the benevolent supreme rule of GMs and democracy between the ppl.
if we have that noble wars, that sounded like WoE but for titles instead. that sounded like the sengoku jidai (the warring states era in japan) where all the nobility wanted to be the shogun which in this server means the prince to an npc king
(it just sunded silly to me).
oh btw i forgot to mention a system called gendarmerie. in the old days it does not mean french police or mercenary or whatever it means now. it is actually a system where a lord grants fief to the leader of a freelance men at arms company, in effect hiring that mercenary under feudal fiefdom. its like if a noble grants what JJJ suggested to a guild leader.
this could bring the nobility rave like wild fire.
