Nobody said light side needs to be good, nor is the dark side evil. Light side is just lawful and dark side is chaotic.

I see it more like this.

Light is Lawful Good, Neutral Good, Chaotic Good and Lawful Neutral.

Dark is Lawful evil, Neutral Evil, Chaotic Evil and Chaotic Neutral.

True Neutral is of cource True Neutral.

"Technically" speaking: Light side did start out as "good" and dark side "evil" but that's been changed since it's so cliche and it's hard to write anything remotely good.

It's slowly modified in events so Light is "lawful" (lawful good, neutral or evil), and Dark is "chaotic" (chaotic good, neutral or evil.) Basically, all those DnD terms mean this:

Light: "As long as you obey some rule of some sort, consistently" (means affect final outcome)

Dark: "SCREW THE RULES! I have money" (end justifies means)

So the Light Goddess would be fine with killing off a entire peaceful village if it was within the law to do so. Or forcing people to pay the taxes regardless if they can pay. Or even killing off good people if their goddess commanded it.

While dark side would do stuff like work towards other peoples needs selflessly *Robin Hood style*. Or decide to fight against evil of their own alliance because they decide it is the right thing to do regardless of the commands of their higher ups?

Tho it is cliche making it only Good and Evil, Lawful and Chaos is almost as bad with how many shades of greys it has. How can Light side be called light side if they will do evil if it means following the law. Or Dark side be called dark side if its doing constant good and very little evil. At that point it may aswell be called Order and Chaos instead of Light and Dark.
