Hm I thought holidays were meant to take a moment to really think about something you might not normally or at least make people want to for a short time period.

The problem for many of you is capitalism is...capitalizing on those thoughts by finding ways to make it seem like you gotta get stuff on many of those holidays?

Kittie Wrote:i think its a bit of bcrap to 'show your love to someone special' in only that day a year. Lol i can love someone and show that person i love him/her 365 days (and sometimes 366 days) a year. That i care or love about that person doesn't need one day in the year to either show my love to him/her or to 'confess' my feelings to that person.??

Nihil Wrote:I never really understood the reasoning behind *any* holidays, to be quite honest. Celebrating a specific person, or a specific event... if it's so great to be significant, you should have it celebrated every day of your life, even if in a small way.

Holidays are really just the lazy people's excuse to say they really care about the thing in question. A bad significant other, who hardly spends any time with you and doesn't really care for you, can immediately get an A+ simply by participating at that designated time of year. It's ridiculous and just deludes people and those around them into thinking that they actually care about (insert holiday reason here).

QFT.

By the way, do you know how I got aware valentine's day is near?
Adverts on the underground (or subway, pick your fave word) for the BEST VALENTINE'S DAY PRESENT EVER. BUY YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER AN IPOD!!
And more adverts everywhere, valentine discounts...
Yeah yeah, the "merchants" are gonna be the ones really celebrating...

RE: Valentine?s Day a hoax?
Let me explain my outlook on holidays. It applies to all, but more so to Valentine's Day, since people seem to always try to push it off with things like "Singles Awareness Day".

If a holiday doesn't apply to me or my interests, I don't celebrate it.
The end.
You think I celebrate Saint Patrick's Day? Hanukkah?
No.
Do you think I make an anti day for them, instead?
No.

I couldn't care less how "commercial" it is becoming.
Stores don't dictate what I celebrate or how. If I want to celebrate something the "commercial" way, then that is my choice.

Don't try to ruin or sabotage the holiday for those who do choose the celebrate it, or the way they do.
If you view it as "any other day", then treat it as such.
Not hard.

*wears geek glasses*

Holidays are delusions that are made for the comfort of humans to have their morale boosted from times of depression as it will cause them to elevate their excitement in life from the cycle and pattern they follow.
