Honestly, if I could recommend it, I would say you should wait on the alchemist. It's obviously possible to level them first, but it's SO much easier if you have either zeny or gears built up before you start it. That's just my opinion, though. If you are set on making it first, I would recommend this:

Go with an AGI battle build and start saving zeny. Sell off anything you're not likely to use and begin saving for a Fireblend. When you get a Fireblend, reset to INT/DEX (or INT/AGI) build. Firebolt things (Mavkas, Mi Gaos, Geographers) and level your homunculus. Really, between leveling yourself and your homunculus you can stay at Mavkas for forever. Get Biocannibalize 4 and get to Job 50 that way (it's easy).
