Starting the game should now be faster than ever, thanks to our new
Installer!
- Changelog
- Players that use this installer will no longer have to sit through patches from 2015 to 2019.
- The file size of rdata.grf was reduced from 250mb to 420kb (lol).
- Content from data.grf that was customized and therefore already in heRO.grf has been removed to lower file size. Examples: Old Nightmare Pyramid map, old veins field 06, Lutie town, etc.
- The file size of heRO.grf has been reduced from ~730 MB to ~560 MB by removing un-customized content that was already in data.grf. Example: Geffen Town, some Geffen Field maps, Brasilis and Bifrost 3D models, etc.
- Old and unused content has been removed from heRO.grf. Examples: Eudoxie's Kaldheim Siege Map, Christmas Quest 2018 Instance, Dream Realm Event Maps, etc.
- Content accidentally patched into the wrong folder has been removed from heRO.grf.
- Unused content from the "RO" folder has been removed or cleaned up. Examples: The AI folder, TipOfTheDay, etc.
- kRO patchers have been removed to prevent data.grf from reaching 2.1 GB which can cause the game client to be unable to read them.
In the end, our Installer sits at 2.1 GB. The 2015 installer sits at 2.2 GB, which makes it not seem like much of an improvement, until you consider the latest installer is patched up to the very beginning of 2020, while the 2015 one will wind up far heavier after patching. For context, in 2018 alone we patched over 300 MB worth of content (Lutia & Faeheim releases, etc).
For simplicity's sake, we now only offer two main downloads: Full Installer and a BGM Pack.
Lite Install packs have been discontinued as these often wound up causing issues for inexperienced players, due to using other servers' incompatible files.
The Full Installer will not contain any BGM in order to keep the download as lightweight as possible. To obtain the game's music, simply download it separately from the first post of this thread and extract the contents in your RO folder.
Last but not least, the BGM pack has been updated! It now includes all the latest Ragnarok Online music up until the very beginning of 2020, plus for the first time ever, now contains music not from official servers! They'll be used starting next patch, so if you enjoy playing with the game's music on, we recommend you download the BGM pack from the
first post of this thread, as these won't be patched to avoid having every player sit through nearly 150 MB worth of music. Song credits and links to them can be found on the
wiki.
