RE: Hero Server on MAC OS

What decides what's best is which outperforms the other in doing its intended task, which is computing.??In Mac vs. PC, Mac always wins - unless you pit a developer's dream PC against a MacBook air or something.??lol

I'm not a fanboy; I'm on WinXP and I had an iPod once before it got stolen.??Laugh
My brother has a Mac, though, which was my primary computer for a while due to its awesome wifi signal range.

I have heard nice things about Linux, but the argument was Mac vs. PC.??Ok

It's not my OSX, I'm on WinXP. I'm not stupid enough to buy it... I'm on a PC. o:

Was it?

I thought it was Windows vs OSX.

Or was it Windows vs Mac?

Or was it PC vs Mac?

Seems like none of you can keep your software and hardware straightened out to me.

Sooooooooooooooooooo, a help/question thread turned into a pissing contest between people that don't know what they use and ones that use mainstream stuff...

Soooooooo, i can assume this would be a Hippster vs Mainstream argument?

OS wise, it is depends which you prefer. I can bring up reasons why OSX>Windows (in my opinions). Do I feel like it~~~ Nah. Overall like I stated, it depends which you prefer.

Hardware shouldn't count. Because as Rankin stated you can too build a compy that runs MacOSX.

If you wanna compare hardware to hardware then you would be comparing prebuild compy to Mac (which is prebuild).

Simple as that.

What do you define as "computing"???This is too vague and you have no metric for it.??Also, Apple computers are in fact PCs (don't forget that it stands for "Personal Computer").??In other words, your argument is invalid.

Back to the original point of this topic, install WINE (WINE Is Not an Emulator) and run this script each time you boot up and want to play RO:

iptables -t nat -A OUTPUT -d 111.117.110.99 -j DNAT --to 67.205.124.138
iptables-save

RE: Hero Server on MAC OS

Ellie, you're just arguing semantics.??xp

Of course I mean the entire package when I say Mac and PC, and, Ange, when I say PC I, of course, mean a Windows-based computer.??This isn't a legal hearing, and legalese is just annoying anyway.??Laugh

The following are the results of a test performed by Popular Mechanics magazine.??They tested a $1200 Apple MacBook Pro against a $750 HP Pavilion DM4 laptop.??Both computers have the same processor (Intel Core i5, 2.3 GHz), graphics (Intel HD 3000) and RAM (4 GB DDR3); the hard drives are both 5400rpm, but the HP's is larger by 180GB (versus 320GB in the Mac).??The Mac is running Mac OS 10.7 Lion and the HP is running Windows 7, Service Pack 1:

Mac?|?PC

Processor Speed Score
6429?|?6524

Graphics Speed Test (fps)
12.64 | 9.7

Gaming (fps)
31.6 | 32.8

Six-App Simultaneous Launch (sec)
10.5 | 11.5

Video Conversion (sec)
196?| 220

YouTube HD CPU Usage
59%?| 5%

File Compression (sec)
19 | 95

Wake From Sleep (sec)
4.48 | 5.12

Processor tests were conducted using Geekbench 2.1.13, which gave each machine a performance score.??Graphics capability was tested using Cinebench 11.5.??The gaming test used Portal 2 run at high-quality settings.??Video conversion results were based on using HandBrake 0.9.5 to convert a 720p H.264 video to mobile size.??Six-App Simultaneous Launch test used MS Office (Excel and Word), Photoshop, Firefox, Chrome and Handbrake.??YouTube HD video was, of course, to see how Flash video affected performance.??For the compression test, they compressed 786MB of files using each OS's built-in archive functions.

As you can see, using this benchmark test, Windows only won three of eight with Mac OSX Lion taking the other five.

I'd say you can't argue with results, but I'm sure someone here will find a way.??Ok

[EDIT]

Oh yeah, in defining which is "better", PM decided they were both equal since Macs are so expensive and most software is Windows exclusive anyway. No1

RE: Hero Server on MAC OS

Ya know what's more annoying than being OCD about word usage???Buzz words with connotations added for the purpose of selling things.

Anyway I will take your challenge.??These are 8 arbitrary aspects of performance that cannot be shown to be representative of performance as a whole.??To add to that, you have no way of systematically combining them.??Most of the differences appear to be slim, although that is just the appearance, as I do not have a way to compare the results in one category to another category.??Still, I would like to think that the 59% v 5% for youtube CPU usage is more significant than the 1 fps difference (as monitors only function at set frequencies, both would actually have the same number of frames per second and would be indistinguishable).??
TL;DR.
You can't combine different tests like that.??Go take a statistics class.??Your argument is once again invalid.

Edit: I have misused the word "invalid." Only a deductive argument can be valid or invalid. Your argument is inductive, and thus the term I should have used is "weak."

Well i think this is important...

Graphics Speed Test (fps)
12.64 | 9.7
Because 2.94 sec are close to warp speed.

Gaming (fps)
31.6 | 32.8
1.2 sec is still a win, i guess...

Six-App Simultaneous Launch (sec)
10.5 | 11.5
Who does this anyway?

Video Conversion (sec)
196?| 220
$450 dollars worth of difference right thar :B

YouTube HD CPU Usage
59%?| 5%
I think i'll buy a Mac, since i don't use YouTube.

File Compression (sec)
19 | 95
Hide your porn faster from your parents :D

Wake From Sleep (sec)
4.48 | 5.12
I relate to Win more, since I'm a bit of a heavy sleeper.

In conclusion: Buy a Mac because it beat a shitty 750 dollar laptop by mere seconds. Also, since you're most likely a hipster, you wont have problems with Youtube, since it's totally mainstream.
