RE: Ideal Server Population
I concur. I don't like super-crowded servers... But it is nice to see people regularly and know you're not totally alone. Icon_smile

mahawirasd Wrote:How big do you think an "ideal" server is for you?
and please elaborate...

to me, as a player, i think 150ish at any one time (real players, don't care about AT merchs) is max... So that's about 200-300 total players in a server (i don't think 150 ppl play 24/7)...
200-ish at WOE (those who do will make time for WOE even if it's not at the best times for their timezone) should make for about 10 decent guilds or 5 real big ones. Of course the number of castles come into the calculation, but anymore than that amount would overcrowd the castles as i think each castle should be (at any one time) under siege from 2 guilds meaning that there are 20 defenders and 40 attackers (from 2 guilds)...
200 should also make partying a viable option without really running out of spawn points in crowded maps.
and 200 would amount to about 200 ATing merch (with the average of 1 ATing merch per person -> some have 4 some have none) and with enough parties and mvp runs this amounts to a good enough econ where you can find what you want at a competitive price...

why not more?
well first of all theres LAG.
then there's basic statistics such as: say 1% of ppl are annoying/etc (this is a VERY low number), 1% of 150 is much much lower than 1% of 300 because it seems annoying/etc people stack logarithmically... xP

The more the merrier. More partys, more stuff.

I also want to add that if you complain about the economy and are wanting a small server, than you are dumb. really.

Don't complain about lag with high population. The server now has a pretty strong connection. If you lag its because your connection sucks. Like it would sucks on any online fps game or whatever else.

RE: Ideal Server Population
I would love to have more people on heRO. If we could get 500 people playing (not including auto traders), I would be fairly happy. Basically, I would like to have enough people playing so that the economy becomes better and more stabilized, plus the more the merrierNo1.

RE: Ideal Server Population
I would like more guild competition so 500+ would make me happy honestly. I've played on a decently sized midrate before it closed down (supposedly reaching over 1k for woe's before server pop declined due to corruptions), and a lowrate with over 2k pop. I love big WoE's, it makes alliances matter more, and also not knowing everyone and their dog makes it nicer to actually meet someone.

Also means GM's could kill @main if server actually got big enough, and we all know how this mod personally feels about that *-*

RE: Ideal Server Population
My ideal server population would be somewhere around 300 people, excluding @at merchants. Frankly, too many people makes things really annoying whenever you want to do something. I mean, hunting a monster or MVP that has a once/hour spawn rate against 20 other people is extremely discouraging. Also, with 300 players, WoE would be a bit more competitive, as well as help to establish a stable market (so you don't always end up asking main about pricing) and that's always fun. =]

RE: Ideal Server Population
the thing with MvPs is that they're supposed to be hunted like that, besides they're FFA so it doesn't matter if 20 other people are after it, if you kill it with the majority of the damage done, you get the goods and a somewhat decent amount of exp.

RE: Ideal Server Population
The more people there is, the more the odds are that someone is hunting the mvp while you sleep and that you will see the stuff you are looking for in a shop

RE: Ideal Server Population
Yea if ther server reaches over 500+ people ill be happy. Ive been on a 3k pop low rate and in general unless you make yourself known, no one knows you. But it kinda feels good coming into a server with out anyone knowing you or atleast it does to me.

Before I realized my real role was a priest, I played my sin like a one man against the world kind of thing. And once I got my infiltrator I felt so great and it pushed me to get more gears.

I think that if your put out on your own, and you can handle it, it makes you stronger. So having 500+ people eventually, would be something Id like.

The first lesseon a revolutionary must learn is that he is a doomed man. Unless he understands this, he does not grasp the essential meaning of his life.
And thus he isn't a revolutionary if he doesn't understand.
