rule against 'yelling' on main.

I would like to ask that typing in all caps repeatedly be considered as it is on virtually all of the rest of the internet world as yelling/screaming. Not only do I find it to be offensive due to how rude it is, but it is generally considered unacceptable on the rest of the internet.

Now, I may seem like I'm whining. I may be. However my statement still holds validity. Do please consider making a rule for typing in all caps since it is so closely associated with flame wars.

My reason for proposing this 'new rule' are merely based on internet formalities and the lack there-of.

Politeness is all we have on-line, and someone screaming in 'my' ear, effectively from within the same room (since main is essentially a global chat room) is rude bordering on the disrespectful...

I propose this for both main and public chat, but not private chat rooms, since you can actually leave those without missing out.

I only see caps talking a big issue when people let it get out of hand. You can usually tell when things are actually becoming simple flame baits/wars.

I was also surprised that heRO doesn't have a rule about caps lock abuse in public channels.

I think it should be given a lot more leeway than cursing and other forms of abuse of public channels, but I propose that if someone uses all caps more than twice within 5 minutes, then we should be allowed to give them a warning. If it continues in a way that offends people after the warning, then I think the normal procedure of muting, etc should be used.

I'm not saying that caps lock is "not allowed" since it can be a way to express oneself without any malicious intent, but I do believe it needs to be regulated.

However, this is just my opinion on the issue, so whatever the heRO staff says, goes

Why such the push to get rid of @main? Its one of the key elements that keeps the community connected, both in good and bad ways; but I see the positives largely outweighing the negatives. Main isnt always full of spam, and if it weren't for the "entertaining" people on @main, heRO would be a pretty boring place.

And in chat rooms, You'd still miss out on what the other people would say. It's no different than @main off when you leave a chatroom.

I have just a small amount of confidence that most people in @Main have some common sense, and if not, the hired mods got the common sense to know when to warn or mute if necessary. As much as I support precise and clear-cut rulings, I don't think that we need it to the point of having a timer on how many times you used capitals and what not like other posters (not the thread starter) posted...

Sometimes brute force and iron laws aren't the way to go to tackle troll-like activities. Rather, it's the atmosphere of the community that encourages if they dare to act up or not. Therefore, really the best solution to these types of problems is for everyone to do your part and be polite, and by peer influence, other people will keep it at an acceptable level. Those who can't, that's what mods and GMs are for.
