I just noticed while trying to drop it that it was account-bound, is there any reason to this ?

Did you try trading it? It's possible you may not be able to drop the item but you can still trade it. I've seen this before on some servers. It's to keep you from accidentally losing your item with fast drag clicking or a miss click.
I didn't tried yet, as I don't have much acquaintances at the moment online.
I've left a Support Ticket of this case anyway, I just want a clear and helpful answer on this. (Otherwise it has no reason to be in the Help/Questions section).
