I was thinking of coming back to this after many years away. I remember reading that the official servers went through a stat and gear mechanic change, putting it more in line with modern mmo with quests, etc. Does this server play with those rules?

This is a pre-renewal server, the stat and gear mechanic that you mention, along with the 3rd jobs are what we call "renewal", we don't have those.

I can't give you a precise episode that we're into since we added part of the new dungeons/monsters but with different stats. We have brasilis, the new world, manuk, splendide and the nydhogur dungeon.
