Hence the reason why tourism industry is in deep pain and crying.
Because passports are backlogged like 10-12 weeks. Or I can pay extra and have it in 2-3 weeks.
If I drive I don't need a passport...but...uh...S'prolly a long drive? And I'm too young to rent a car...without paying half of my yearly salary a day or whatever.
Appearantly though a 'proof of application status' is enough to get in and out of Canada, and I can have that in 7 days. So says the US dept of State, and they would know? lol
Interesting indeed.
EDIT -
US Government People Wrote:U.S. citizens traveling by air to the following destinations must follow these instructions for proof that a passport application has been received by the Department of State and is still being processed??as part of the recently announced Temporary Travel Flexibility for U.S. Citizens with Pending Passport Applications:
Canada,
Mexico,
Bermuda, or
the Caribbean.
You must keep a printout of your passport application status for departure from the U.S. and for re-entry into the U.S.??Some countries included above may still require a passport or other additional documentation.
