I watched it...it was cute, but waay overhyped IMO. Too long, and is forgettable after watching it once.

It's a re-interpretation of the Little Mermaid Story. It's childlike and innocent and from what I've heard, tries to wow you with immersion and simple storytelling instead of over the top sequences or fanciful wish wash.

well i heared its good...

but im laughing at that poster for 3 reasons...

1. Its english dubbed
2. its distriputed by disney(like most of studio Ghibli movies in USA)
3. it has freaking Matt Damon in it(where the heck is Ben Affleck >:3)

But most dubbed Miyazaki movies are pretty much identical in their dub. See: Spirited Away, Laputa, Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service, Totoro, etc.

I watched the original version, honestly, it probably wouldn't have affected my view on the movie if I had watched the english version. Sharpay is right, it would have been the exact same movie no matter what language the viewer watched it in.

It was pretty good, but not in the same league as the Studio Ghibli movies that came before it

As for being released in the US by Disney, they signed a contract, I don't think it was that great of an idea, but oh well, they still have a few more movies to go before the end of their contract with them I think.
