RE: Math Help

Tch, it can't be 70 because the doubled number has to be less than 140 but cant be 140 itself. 70x2 IS 140

No.

The double of the number (140) is zero less than 140. Zero is a valid number for this condition.

RE: Math Help

Shikari, just make the doubled number must be more then 70 by the difference between the number and 140.

So make the number X to make it easier.

Find the value of X whose double exceeds 70 by as much as the value of X itself is less then 140.

2x - 70 = 140 - x
2x + x = 140 + 70
3x=210
x = 210/3
x = 70

2x - 70 = 140 - x
2(70) - 70 = 140 - 70
70 = 70

So x must equal 70, as doubled it is more then 70 by as much as 70 is less then 140.
