well, shinji is one of the less apreciated character in the anime. i can see why many people wants him dead (he complains and whine a lot). but when thinking about the story plot where his past was revealed i couldn't help but sympathise with him.

somehow i still wouldn't want to go give him a pat and say "there there". but iyali, *hugs* "there there, dont kill yourself"
