So, yeah, after a full week with about 19 total hours of sleep (stupid AP Lit/Comp had two huuuuge projects due this week, so I got to pull a double all-nighter ala Jelly (sleep for 2 hours then do the work). Anyways, after finding that on the days I was up the previous night working on homework were the days I was most awake, I mused that I should write some sort of poem about how evil sleep is.
So I did.

Sleep
---
Sleep is an evil temptress,
Bearing ashes and dust;
A nymphomanic mistress,
Who flaunts her endless lust.

With fatigue she teases, toys,
Seducing as you near;
Catching you, falsely coy,
Enticing with a sneer.

One of millions, thus alone,
For hours, she murders time.
Swallowing youth with a moan,
A punishment sans crime.

A vile and a selfish thief,
Robber of wit and sight;
She'll leave you wet, without grief,
And revel in your plight.

So says I, I do declare,
Full of malice and spite;
Now she begs for my despair,
To claw, or scratch, or bite.

And as I drift under her spell,
I cry to those with me in Hell-
Release me from this god-damn cell!
Release me from these chains and knell!
Release me from these Succubi,
While I still will enough to try,
To turn from their sweet lullaby!

I toss and turn in cold sweat,
I shake and groan and weep;
For to her my soul pays debt-
At last, she lets me sleep.
