Dumb Chat Box Question

Alright, I feel pretty nub not having figured this out myself, but I really want my experience gained and items found to stop showing up in the public chat box. The little plus button only seems to modify the battle log.

You can turn the item get/Drop message off in the battle log options. Fifth one down.
Can't do it for the public log.


You can turn the exp messages on and off with the @showexp command. This one affects the public log.

So I can just turn the battle log into my chat box and the public log into my battle records? That seems unintuitive, but I guess if it works, it works.
