Toggle pet talk

Number 3 seems to establish the best compromise to me. That way each player is left a choice on what to do with their pet and their speech. :>

There is a file in your grf with lines your pet say, you can edit there, you are the only one who sees them, but if you remove a line or 2 it won't be that much spam. =)
