The Rickroll is a variant of the original joke, a Duckroll. It started on 4chan, and would lead people to a link (youtube or otherwise) with a picture of a duck on wheels. Someone got random and creative and started the Rickroll, making a post on 4chan which supposedly lead to an early/leaked trailer of GTA4. It migrated to the rest of the internet from there.

Don't ask me why I know these things.

Odd, I thought the DuckRoll was a joke that came after the RickRoll. That was just something I assumed though.

It works far better if you use Tinyurl. Unless you have IE anybody can see the URL before clicking on it.
