Absent (Felt too big for the main topic)

First off, I'd like to state that this ENTIRE PROFILE was done elsewhere, and so therefore will be sort of... yeah. The main problem is the history, which I'll edit as I go along. A few people may recognize it to be similar to a d20 template, and it is, but an edited one to my own tastes >> <<. If I end up making the other characters on this server, you may see one of the less.. emo profiles. ANGGGGGGGGGGGGGGSSSSSST. Don't know why, but no matter what, EVERY single assassin has at least one thing wrong with them.

In reference to the three names that are written down, I'll give a brief explanation. One is the alias he uses, one is the mandatory weaboo type japanese crap, and the final one is his ACTUAL name. In regards to the fact I use Okayaki as a name, it being a character in his past... I dunno.

1.1.2 Appearance

Absent wears a long hooded robe that reaches down to his knees, that could give the outward appearance of the personification of death. You know, the whole overall ghostly look with the face-covering hood. The robe itself is fastened across his chest via a strap in the gunslinger outfit type fashion, and a white symbol adorns the back of it, unlike any other emblems seen before. Within the robe itself are a number of straps and compartments, used to line the inside with his extensive dagger collection.

Beneath the robe is the typical assassin outfit. Wrapped around his hands are gauntlet-like fingerless gloves in the sense that spikes jut out from them. Covering his grey eyes is a blindfold. The eyes themselves have a peculiar pattern, but they are rarely seen. His hair is black and naturally messy, with some spikes.

1.1.3 Personality

Generally aggressive and sarcastic, Absent has a blunt personality that usually makes him come off as mean and violent. He treats many people as mindless sheep, who follow anyone who sounds smart enough to lead them, but he has shown himself to be quite trustworthy and friendly.. to certain people. He rarely shows compassion or sadness as he believes they're signs of weakness.

Truthfully, he's just a very lonely person. His aggressive behavior is a result of how he spent most of his adolescent years, fighting for his life and losing people close to him. Although he does make a lot of offensive jokes and awkward conversations about touchy subjects like sex, it's usually just to mess with people, enjoying the reactions most people give him.

1.1.4 Fighting Style(s)

Previously, Absent used to wield a rather large broadsword swung with both hands. Since then, he's taken to using the traditional assassin weaponry, daggers mainly and katars. Although the collection is currently being remade, he has traditionally used a 30 dagger collection lining the inside of his robe to fight. In recent times, he has taken to using a pair of katars hidden up the sleeves of the robe, and also traditional unarmed combat in addition to the daggers.

What sets him aside from most humans; let alone warriors is his eyes, which have him stuck in a permanent "infravision". This means that he sees the world via reflection of light and heat instead of color and detail. Because of this, day and night are virtually the same except for minor differences, meaning that he can easily chase people through the darkness, even being able to see through magic cloaks and under the ground to spot other assassins and rogues no matter what way they choose to conceal themselves.

2 History

2.1 Pre-heRO (Rune Midgard)

2.1.1 The Eyes of Fire

Before we get into details of Alistair's life, let's spend a little bit before it, focused on his mother. A well known-warrior, she spent her time as one of the few warriors in the little town, an assassin of high skill. One day, while she was out training, she came upon a blacksmith chopping down trees to build a makeshift forge. Some don't believe in love at first sight, but in this particular case, that man ended up becoming her husband and father to their only child. But that didn't happen for a good few years later. Anyway... this woman gained the attention of a traveling scientist, who claimed to apparently be blind. But he spoke of a cure, which might save his own eyesight and of those people in the future who would also go blind. She volunteered for his experiments, hoping she could help, since she once had a brother who suffered the illness. Little did she know, this strange outsider came to her specifically, having heard of her strength. He figured that he'd need a strong woman to do this work on, as he'd lost his previous subjects on account of them being ordinary civilians. And so he began. Day after day he operated on her, using alchemy, magic, and other combined methods on her eyes, altering them. But, the result wasn't as expected. Whereas she once had perfect vision, it had now been warped. The world was dark, and she saw it through heat and light instead of color and perfect detail. Throughout this entire ordeal, she'd been dating that blacksmith mentioned earlier on. Having found her crying one day, now blinded, he became enraged and went to kill the man who had done this to her. To his dismay, he'd already packed up and left. Months after months, he helped and guided her as she became accustomed to this new vision. It eventually led to her becoming even more skilled of a warrior then she had been previously, but it was still more of a curse then a blessing. Eventually, the two eloped and had a child, who they named Alistair.

2.1.2 Learning Disabilities

Soon after his birth, Alistair's father had to leave for reasons he hadn't specified, returning an extended period of time. During this period, his mother went into retirement temporarily to raise him as a single parent. Judging from his eyes, it looked as though he'd developed the same condition she had, which left her distraught. Her eyes had almost ruined her life. But, there was a difference between him and her. Whereas she had been born with and enjoyed normal vision for most of her life, he was born with it, therefore would never know the difference nor experience the sorrow of being unable to see the world as it really was. That little bit of information both comforted and made her sad. He learned to talk and walk as all children did, but he had one serious issue. He could not read nor write, but his father tried to come up with solutions during the periods that he reappeared in the town, still traveling about the world doing things. His mother began to home-school him, since he couldn't be sent to a regular school with other children. She taught him about the world, the people in it, as much world history as she herself knew, and techniques to compromise for being unable to see, such as reading hand movements to see what people were writing. Due to all this private schooling and general parent worry, he became quite sheltered, not venturing out far enough to make friends. Around the time he was eight years old, his father returned, permanently settling down. It was then that he began to teach him stuff outside of education, such as basic smithing skills. Around age ten, the town was attacked by a large group of bandits, who made their way into the town, ransacking houses and stealing everything they could. Since he was still a child and hadn't learned to use weapons yet, he could only run away when one of these thugs made their way into his house. Faced with a spear, it looked as though his short life would end abruptly. But, his father burst into the room, engaging the stranger in battle. Although he had won, he was bleeding badly, and died soon afterwards. Alistair's mother ran home to find her husband, dead, being held by her son.

2.1.3 The Perfect Weapon

Alistair was thirteen now, and had reached the age that most children began to learn to use arms from the warriors in the town. Since the town wasn't modernized or that densely populated, no established militia existed. Instead, around puberty, all children were taught how to fight by the existing warriors how to fight. Because of this, it gave the town a more quality then quantity generation of fighters, split into squads of three to five. Due to this type of regime, the town had become famous for it's skilled mercenaries, such as Alistair's mother. But, she was hesitant to allow him to enroll, due to his eyesight. His sheer will won her over though, his want, or maybe need to learn to defend himself. The loss of his father opened his eyes, and he never wanted to let someone he cared about die in front of him again, unable to do anything. Although she accepted his wishes, she made a compromise. Still worried, being his mother, she arranged it so that she herself would be his combat tutor. It was then that he met the other two people assigned to her, Kietsu and Okayaki, who would become his lifelong friends, even after death. At first, it started off rocky. Alistair was still shy and awkward having not spoken to many other people before, and it clashed with his new friends' personalities. Kietsu was outspoken, forward and positive. Okayaki was rash, blunt and mean. The two often argued, with him caught in the middle as the mediator and friend to both. Eventually learning to understand one another, they began to seriously train under the guidance and watchful eyes of Alistair's mother. Alistair took up the sword, Kietsu a pair of battle fans used like rapiers. Okayaki used a scythe originally made by Alistair as a joke, but wielded it anyway. His reasoning was that it was a strong weapon, and it made him look cool.

2.1.4 The Beginning of Absent

Three years passed, and the three friends had grown closer. Since they had become such established warriors in the village, Alistair's mother broke off as their commander, allowing them to work freely as she herself returned back to active duty. All three had become masters using their respective weapons, and had even learned to use magic to a certain degree. Alistair and Kietsu had grown quite fond of one another, much to Okayaki's dismay. He had openly expressed the fact he was attracted to Kietsu, but had been rejected. This, coupled with the fact that Alistair had become known as the leader of the trio due to his exceptional skills, drove him to jealousy and rage. One day, he finally snapped upon hearing a comment about the duo being a favorite to become a couple. Gathering his items, he made to leave the town forever, to forget about everyone and everything and start anew. But, she had heard of him leaving, and pursued him out of the mountain town. Alistair learned of this later, and went to chase both out. By the time he had arrived, Kietsu was defeated, lying on the ground covered in blood as Okayaki fled the scene. He held her, trying to comfort her and reassure her that she wasn't going to die. But she knew she was going to, and simply told him that she was glad he was with her for the end. Kissing her, he chases Okayaki down, enraged. It had been the second time someone he loved had died in his arms. Different circumstances, same outcome. He was distraught and frustrated himself, and sought to avenge her. Finally confronting Okayaki, they exchange words on life and death, how easily it could be taken and given. Throwing himself at his friend turned enemy, the two engaged in battle, tearing at each other with their weapons. During this battle, Alistair's sword was smashed to two pieces, and Okayaki's scythe knocked far away. Grinning, Okayaki set the immediate area on fire, leaving Alistair blinded due to his vision. Setting him on fire, Okayaki taunted him, laughing as his expense. Throwing himself on top of his former friend, Alistair holds Okayaki to the ground with the intent of letting them both burn to death. A month later, he awakens in hospital, heavily bandaged and being questioned by his former peers and associated on what happened. Since he was the only survivor, it was being assumed he had killed Kietsu, which angered him. Fleeing the interrogation, he sneaks back to his house to gather some belongings, and leaves, depressed and both physically and mentally scarred. He'd lost another two people close to him, shunned by those he depended on and burned to the point of looking inhumane.
