Geffenia quest issue HELP ME!!!

I was doing the geffenia quest and I got to the part where you must stop Serin. I failed, but retried. MY priesty friend when in without me and killed stuff...and it seems to think he is the one doing the quest, now. He went to the valkryie and she gave HIM The Sign...instead of me. Accordin to the game, I haven't actually defeated the monsters...but he has. Now...I can't transfer the sobbing starlight to him and he can't give ME the sign...

What am I supposed to do?!?!?
