kernel32.dll:setfilepointex(orsomethinglikethat)

Hey, I just started playing on this server and when I first logged in I didn't realize the icon onthe desktop wasn't the patcher. wasn't too much of an issue until I went into pront and the client crashed.

I went and found hero.exe and ran that and as soon as I did I recieved an error that it was connected to a missing port, kernel32.dll:setfilepointerex . I've downloaded a RODLL I saw a GM post on these boards and unzipped it the RO folder, didn't work.

Tried downloading a kernell32.dll file from the net and putting that into the kernel32.dll spot on my computer, but still got that error. Deleted HeRO, re downloaded, patched sak, and tried to patch HeRO again and got the same error.

Cry I'm out of ideas. I'd really like to play on this server, I liked the community even though i only interacted for a few minutes. Uh, my OS is windows 98 (old I know Icon_cry ). I didn't see a system requirement thing on your page, I might've just missed it, and maybe it's cause my OS can't support the server?

Edit: I also dusted out my machine really well, so I dont' think it's that it's overheating/cpu fan is dusty anymore.

I can only suggest you google KERNEL32.DLL:SetFilePointerEx and try to find an answer. I would think its a OS error. I'm hoping maybe someone on the forum can help you out.

For the heRO game, I'd say make sure the patcher is up to date and sakray as well. Can't really add more Icon_sad

Good luck.

Can you post a screenshot of your RO folder please, this will help ^_^

Also can you try to locate the file neoncube.file its located in your RO folder, and tell us the number inside it (it opens with notepad).

kernel32.dll errors in games are sometimes related to video card drivers as well. if patching up ro as much as u possibly can doesn't help u, try updating video card drivers.

your OS shouldn't interfear with game play as long as it meets minimal specs to play. But because its an older OS, it likely doesn't have up-to-date drivers. As said, just update your drivers, then keep us updated on if it works or not.

From the eA forum: "Only thing I find bad of Neoncube is that it's repacking is long and that it doesn't support Windows 98"

If that's true, sorry, doesn't look like you'll be able to play. :(

O_O first time I've seen the whole compatability issue. But if you are gonna get a new OS, which isn't too expensive if your only going with the upgrade software, I'd recommend trying to find windows XP service pack 2 or 3. They've "officially" stoped making them, but there should still be some floating around. If it comes down to just being able to play, vista home premiem or vista ultimate works best. But if your gonna do the upgrade, make sure your computer meets the specs needed by either OS. Its recommended for 1gb RAM for XP and at least 1.5gb for vista. At least 40gb hard drive, prefered 120gb+. and at least an intel pentiem 4 processor.

Use windows 2000 SP4. Shouldn't be hard to find, windows still support it, and they don't check if its a genuine or not for patches.
