There is no base level requirement for a player to join the event. It is recommended for players to be at least base level 80 or higher. However, there are exceptional players who have won a score of 70 or higher with a base level of 40-80, but it requires a deep understanding of the preparation and play style needed to excel in Trial of Heroes.

*In order to enter the event talk to ToH NPC located near to the Prontera Tool Shop.

*There is no base level requirement for you to join the event. It is recommended by players that one should only challenge the Trials of Heroes at base level of 80 and higher. #Pets and pet eggs are not allowed.
 +
#Players can bring as much items as their weight allows but the items must last the whole event. Storage service is not provided to participating players until the event has ended.
 +
#Trading with other players during or between any trials is absolutely forbidden.
 +
#Players' cloth palettes will be automatically changed to Evil Zone for Dark players and Sky View for Light players.
 +
#Players are responsible for their own time and attendance. Problems such as lag, disconnection and issues occurring in real life are the player's own responsibilities. Players will not be waited if they are unavailable during the event when their presence is needed.
 +
#If for some reason the participating player could not stay until the end to collect their prizes, they can talk to the Prize Giver to be given rewards based on the points accumulated during the trials.
 +
#Spectators are not allowed in the event.
 +
#Some classes are at a huge disadvantage in this event as rewards are given based on the player's ability to fight monsters and other players. Because of this, a handicap is given based on certain classes worth:
 +
#*15 points to Priests.
 +
#*10 points to High Priests.
 +
#*5 points to Novices (not Super Novices).
 +
#*5 points to Baby classes.

=== '''Basic Rules''' ===

* You may not bring any pet to the event.

* Outside buffs (aka not your own) are forbidden, until the team battle where buffs from people of your allegiance are allowed (and encouraged).

* You may bring all you can carry (this includes gears AND consumables), but it must last you the whole event. Once the event starts you will be saved in a room with no further access to your storage, so make good use of what you bring.

* Trading with other players during or between any trials is absolutely forbidden.

* Dropping items on the floor (regardless what the item is), is also forbidden.

* During the monster trial, you are not allowed to tell other players what the monsters are or to drop the loots obtained from them. There is a NPC in the room of this trial who will allow you to sell any unwanted loots.

* Sharing trivia answers in any way is forbidden.

* In PVP trials, the use of the Stalker skill chase walk is limited to 10 consecutive seconds.

* You will be wearing the clothes colors of your allegiance; "Evil Zone" for Dark players and "Sky View" for Light players. Both palettes require that you have 30 points to wear, which cannot be a problem since you need 50 allegiance points to register for the event. See the stylist in Prontera to change your clothes color! (The ToH NPC will change you automatically if you forget).

* Priest are at a disadvantage in this event, even if in "battle Priest" mode. They do not have much particularly good attack skills. Because of this I have decided to give a handicap of 15 points to Priests and of 10 points to High Priests. In addition, novices (but not supernovices) get 10 points, and baby classes get 5 points.

* You are responsible of your time and attendance. Things such as lag, d/c, problems with your internet connection, etc. are your responsibility. If you decide to go AFK for any reason and are not back when your presence is needed we will not wait for you. Same goes if you have to leave the ToH early.

* If for some reason you could not stay until the end of the ToH and have not collected your prize, simply visit the Prize giver NPC, located in the Aldebaran guild hall. Make sure to collect it before attempting to enter the next ToH (otherwise the points from the previous ToH will be lost).

* Spectators are no longer allowed in the event.

Few rules during Monster Trial include:

=== '''2. Item gathering''' (50 points, 5 types of items)===
+
*Players are not allowed to reveal details about the monsters to anyone until their phase has ended.
The participant who chooses this trial will have to collect certain items in a closed map (clone of Alberta city) with special monsters with special drops and NPCs who will trade you certain items. This will make it impossible to pre-gather the items (players will be checked at the start of the event anyway). There will be a time limit of 20 minutes for the item gathering. Everyone participates in this trial at once. Killstealing is obviously forbidden.
+
*Players are allowed to set @autoloot off.
 +
*Players are not allowed to buff other players or receive buffs from them.

Note: There are 5 different items to gather in this trial, usually 2 of them will need to be made with NPCs, while the other 3 drop directly from the monsters. See the [[ToH Item Trial]] page for additional details.
+
Monsters in this trial change every month so expect different strategy requirements and difficulty every month.

Resurrections are automated every 1 minute.

 +
Participants choosing to partake in this trial will have to simultaneously collect up to five unique items with various quantities while being pitted together into a closed map (a clone of Alberta city) with special monsters with special drops and NPCs who will trade certain items in exchange for drops from monsters. These special drops are usually collected by an NPC at the end of the trial. Due to the nature of this trial, it is impossible to pre-gather the required items. 20 minutes is usually imposed for players to gather all the required items.

*Successfully gathering the right amount of an asked item earns you 10 points. Fictional example: the list asks for 10 apples and you gathered 10 (or more).
+
Out of the five unique items, three of them are usually dropped by monsters roaming around the map while the other two are obtained by trading away monster drops to NPCs. Map-wide resurrection is provided to every dead participated and is automated to happen every single minute.
*Successfully gathering half of the amount of an asked item earns you 5 points. Fictional example: the list asks for 10 apples and you got between 5 and 9.
+
*Successfully gathering some of the amount (less than half) of an asked item earns you 2 points. Fictional example: the list asks for 10 apples and you got between 1 and 4.
+
*Failure to gather at least 1 of an asked item earns you 0 points.

The participant who chooses this trial will battle 5 opponents of different classes (if possible) amongst the other aspiring heroes. Each fight will be limited to 2 minutes. All players will be fully healed HP/SP before each fight. There will be a time for prebuffs (your own buffs + taking speed pot) before each fight.

==='''4. Trivia!''' (Bonus points)===

All aspiring heroes get to participate in this trial which will test your knowledge of RO and help you earn additional points. With the help of a NPC, a series of questions will be asked, each worth 5 points. We will try my best to make all questions clear and have only 1 answer. Usually there are 5 questions, and we'll announce it if we are to have a different number. Players then input their answers to the NPC, and answers must be properly spelled (must use lower case), in the time frame allowed to receive the points.

==='''5. Light VS Dark Mass PVP Battle''' (Bonus of 10 points)===
+
===<u>PVP Trial</u>===
This last trial is open to all participants and will oppose the Light players to the Dark players in team battles. It will be a 2 out of 3, that means the first team to win twice wins. The goal is simple, kill all players of the opposing allegiance. All players on the winning side earn a bonus of 10 points. GMs will not make anyone (nor allow people to) change sides, which means GMs do not control the number or the force of the players on each side. If for example, 3 light players and 12 dark players enter the ToH it will be a battle of 3 vs 12, however unfair it may seem! It is up to each side to encourage their players to participate.

== '''Prizes''' ==
+
Participants choosing to partake in this trial will have to battle five unique opponents of different classes (if possible) among other participants in a one on one battle in a square arena where players participating in the Trial of Heroes can spectate. Each fight will be limited to exactly two minutes. All players will be fully healed before each fight and only a short amount of time is allocated before each fight to allow players to prepare and buff themselves.

In order to have access to the allegiance hero gears (you must choose between wings or helm; you cannot earn both in the same ToH), a player must score a minimum of 70 ToH points! Here is a list of more detailed prizes:

Few limitation to skill usage include:

Note: These are the points you can score in the event, they don't have anything to do with your Light or Dark allegiance points (those are only necessary to enter the ToH).
+
*The Taekwon skill Jump is not allowed to be used to leave or enter the arena.
 +
*The Stalker skill Chase Walk can only be used for up to 10 consecutive seconds.
 +
*The Novice skill Play Dead can only be used for up to 30 consecutive seconds.
 +
*The High Priest skill Basilica can only be used for up to 30 consecutive seconds (level 3).
 +
*The Alchemist skill Resurrect Homunculus cannot be used during battle.
 +
*The Rogue skill Plagiarize is allowed but players are responsible for their copied skill and will not be allowed to go get it back if they lose it during a fight.

*100 ToH points and above: Your hero gear + 2 OCA + 2 OPB + 10 Allegiance points!

*90 ToH points: Your hero gear + 1 OCA + 10 Allegiance points.

*80 ToH points: Your hero gear + 1 OPB + 1 Bloody Branch + 5 Allegiance points.

*70 ToH points: Your hero gear + 1 Bloody Branch + 5 Allegiance points.

*60 ToH points: 3 OPB + 1 Bloody Branch + 5 Allegiance points.

*40 ToH points: 3 OBB + 1 Bloody Branch + 5 Allegiance points.

*39 ToH points and below: 3 Poring Box + 2 Gift Box + 5 Allegiance points.

 +
Note: Sometimes, there may not be enough participants for each participant to have five fights with different opponents, in which case a GM will ask for volunteers. Volunteers are offered prizes if the battle ends in a tie or a win in the favor of the participant.
 +

Extra bonus: everyone who belongs to the allegiance side that won the mass battle (regardless of ToH participation) get a small bonus until the next ToH! This bonus will be changed every 6 months.

== '''ToH Wings''' ==
+
All aspiring heroes get to participate in this trial which will test their knowledge of heRO server which aims to help players earn additional points without any required gameplay. With the help of an NPC, a series of questions will be asked, each worth 5 points. Players must input their answer in lower case within allocated time to earn points and answers to questions are given when the time limit of each question ends.

ToH wings can evolve. This means that your wings will grow as you participate in more ToHs. The refinement levels will stay same when you upgrade your wings. When you evolve your wings, however, this only affects 1st and 2nd generation wings - since 3rd generation and up are unrefinable. The card will also stay there when you upgrade your wings (if you have carded them).
+
Usually there are five questions, but the hosting GM may be generous enough to provide more than the usual five questions.

<i><strike>You can only have one pair of ToH wings at a time. For example, you will have to trade your 1st generation wings in order to get 2nd generation wings. Once you have the 5th generation wings, you can obtain a new pair of 1st generation wings at the next ToH you succeed in. This means you can have 3 separate pairs of heroic wings. You can also choose one out of 3 options when your wings turn into 5th generation wings. </strike>

ToH wings can evolve. This means that a player's wings will grow as they continue to use ToH Vouchers to upgrade their wings. The refinement levels and compounded card will stay the same when the wings are evolved. The exception is evolving a pair of 2nd Generation Wings to a pair of 3rd Generation Wings as 3rd Generation Wings onward are unrefinable. For the 5th Generation, the player may choose between three different choices of wings.

Trials of Heroes, normally abbreviated as ToH, is a GM-hosted event held once a month and is the only way of obtaining ToH-related gears.

See Light Gears or Dark Gears for more information about ToH-related gears.

Requirements

In order to participate in the Trials of Heroes, talk to the ToH NPC located near Prontera Tool Shop (/navi prontera 129/213) and fulfill these requirements:

  • Players must have sworn to either the Light Allegiance or the Dark Allegiance and have at least 50 Allegiance points (Check here for details about Allegiance system). Neutral players are not permitted entry.
  • Pay the entry fee. No refund is given should the player leave before the event ends. Entry fees are as followed:
Level Rebirth Fee (Zeny)
1-89 No 200,000
90-99 No 300,000
1-89 Yes 400,000
90-99 Yes 500,000

There is no base level requirement for a player to join the event. It is recommended for players to be at least base level 80 or higher. However, there are exceptional players who have won a score of 70 or higher with a base level of 40-80, but it requires a deep understanding of the preparation and play style needed to excel in Trial of Heroes.

The Rules

Basic Rules

  1. Pets and pet eggs are not allowed.
  2. Players can bring as much items as their weight allows but the items must last the whole event. Storage service is not provided to participating players until the event has ended.
  3. Trading with other players during or between any trials is absolutely forbidden.
  4. Players' cloth palettes will be automatically changed to Evil Zone for Dark players and Sky View for Light players.
  5. Players are responsible for their own time and attendance. Problems such as lag, disconnection and issues occurring in real life are the player's own responsibilities. Players will not be waited if they are unavailable during the event when their presence is needed.
  6. If for some reason the participating player could not stay until the end to collect their prizes, they can talk to the Prize Giver to be given rewards based on the points accumulated during the trials.
  7. Spectators are not allowed in the event.
  8. Some classes are at a huge disadvantage in this event as rewards are given based on the player's ability to fight monsters and other players. Because of this, a handicap is given based on certain classes worth:
    • 15 points to Priests.
    • 10 points to High Priests.
    • 5 points to Novices (not Super Novices).
    • 5 points to Baby classes.

Having any of the items below will usually restrict a player's ability to attend the event (usually the item that is not allowed is not stated by the registration NPC).

The Trials

There are a total of five different trials, and each aspiring hero will participate in at most four of them and try to score as many points as possible. See further below for a list of the points and their rewards. Out of the first three trials, each participant must choose only two. The last two trials are open to everyone and provides bonus points.

Monster Trial

Total: 50 points from 5 phases of unique monsters.

Participants choosing to partake in this trial will have to go through a corridor five times in five phases, each phase containing different monster waves of diminishing quantity. The participant will start at one end of the room and must get to the end of the corridor, with monsters in filled between each end. Each phase will be limited to just two minutes and participants are healed in between phases when going through the portals.

Scenario Points Awarded
Killing all monsters and crossing the corridor without dying before time runs out. 10
Crossing the corridor without dying but failing to kill all monsters before time runs out. 5
Killing all monsters without crossing the corridor before time runs out. 5
Failing to cross the corridor and kill all monsters before time runs out. 0

Few rules during Monster Trial include:

  • Players are not allowed to reveal details about the monsters to anyone until their phase has ended.
  • Players are allowed to set @autoloot off.
  • Players are not allowed to buff other players or receive buffs from them.

Monsters in this trial change every month so expect different strategy requirements and difficulty every month.

Item Trial

Total: 50 points from 5 unique items.

Out of the five unique items, three of them are usually dropped by monsters roaming around the map while the other two are obtained by trading away monster drops to NPCs. Map-wide resurrection is provided to every dead participated and is automated to happen every single minute.

Scenario Points Awarded
Successfully gathering the required amount of an asked item. 10
Successfully gathering half or more than half of the amount of an asked item. 5
Successfully gathering less than half the amount of an asked item. 2
Failure to gather at least 1 of an asked item. 0

Few rules during Item Trial include:

  • Players are not allowed to drop items.
  • Players must set @autoloot to 100% at all times.
  • Players are not allowed to give items to other players.
  • Players are not allowed to trade.
  • Players are not allowed to buff other players or receive buffs from them.
  • Killstealing is forbidden.

Note: See here for more details regarding the trial.

PVP Trial

Total: 50 points from 5 unique opponents.

Scenario Points Awarded
Winning a battle. 10
Battle ends with a tie. 5
Losing a battle. 0
Breaking a PVP rule. (Results in opponent's win) 0

Few limitation to skill usage include:

  • The Taekwon skill Jump is not allowed to be used to leave or enter the arena.
  • The Stalker skill Chase Walk can only be used for up to 10 consecutive seconds.
  • The Novice skill Play Dead can only be used for up to 30 consecutive seconds.
  • The High Priest skill Basilica can only be used for up to 30 consecutive seconds (level 3).
  • The Alchemist skill Resurrect Homunculus cannot be used during battle.
  • The Rogue skill Plagiarize is allowed but players are responsible for their copied skill and will not be allowed to go get it back if they lose it during a fight.

Note: Sometimes, there may not be enough participants for each participant to have five fights with different opponents, in which case a GM will ask for volunteers. Volunteers are offered prizes if the battle ends in a tie or a win in the favor of the participant.

Trivia Trial

Total: Usually 25 points from 5 different questions.

Usually there are five questions, but the hosting GM may be generous enough to provide more than the usual five questions.

Light VS Dark Trial

Total: 10 points for winning side in a best of three mass PVP series.

Another trial open to all participants of Trial of Heroes, this last trial is the climax of the event where the two allegiances will battle each other in a best of three series of mass PVP. This means whichever side wins twice wins the series.

The goal is simple - kill all players of the opposing allegiance. All players on the winning side earn a bonus of 10 points. Players are not allowed to switch sides during the fight. However, the catch is that if for example, 3 light players and 12 dark players enter the ToH it will be a battle of 3 VS 12, however unfair it may seem. Therefore, it is up to each side to encourage their players to participate.

In order to have access to the allegiance hero gears, a player must score at least 70 ToH points! Here is a list of more detailed prizes:
