Mining is done in the coal mines. You can get there by using the Kafra at Al de Baran or Geffen for 1,700 zeny (they call it Mjolnir Dead Pit).
Quest
To Start mining you need to do a quest for the old miner in front of the entrance of the coal mines:
- 5 Meat (Wolf, Condor, Savage Babe, Hydra, etc. or buyable at Butcher NPC in morocc)
- 2 Piece Of Cake (Myst Case)
- 2 Apple juice (Mastering, Juice Making Quest)
- 2 Lanterns (Skeleton Worker)
After you give the items, he will explain how to mine and you can buy picks from him to mine. You can either buy 20 for 15000z or you can just buy 1 for 1000z. Obviously, buying 20 is more economical.
Mining Spot
The spot is in the third level of the coal mine in the lower Eastern corner. Hover your cursor in the huge rock in the middle of the lower east corner of the map and you should be able to find it.
Advanced Mining Spot
Requirements:
- Base level 70
- Mining points 50
The spot is in the second level of the Einbroch Mine Dungeon in the middle down the cliff. Hover your cursor down the cliff and you should be able to find it.
Mining Hat
By collecting Rough Orichalum item from the Advanced Mining Spot, you can purify them into Orichalum at a chance 10 with the help the old miner in front of the Coal Mines (where you first started the Mining Quest.) Once you have 10 Orichalum, you can assemble the Mining Hat. Like the Fish Head for Fishing, this hat can boost your chance of better item drops for mining.
