Progress of Update
Hi everyone, I want to give an update on where the T&D team is at for the heRO new client along with other improvements. On top of things that we've shown in the last blog post, here are the new items we have completed or is in the testing phase:
- New Installer
- New Patcher, awaiting artwork to accompany it as it's functional but very barebone
- New refine UI
Note: We will keep the old refining blacksmith in a town somewhere for those who need to do bulk refining en masse. We recognize that the new UI is "slower" in cases where you want to bulk refine many items. However, we like the new UI because it communicates how the upgrade works, what items you can use, and the success rate at each tier. From the UI, you know the benefits of using Enriched Oridecon and Enriched Elunium vs. regular Oridecon and Elunium at each level.
- Potentially fixed an issue with some custom maps that are sky-bound (Caerulia)
- Completed work on all hairstyles and palettes
- Completed work on skin tones
- Fixed issues with all costumes and hats from displaying properly
- Headgear can be previewed from the inventory window, including inside a trade window. You can see how it fits your character before you accept a trade, especially for a costume where appearance is all that matters.
- Fixed most issues so that costumes are in the costume tab
- Item search in Kafra are no longer case-sensitive
- Translated all custom quests in the quest window, but it needs to be reformatted, and some of the official translations are extremely questionable
Regarding Holiday Gears
The GM team also knows that time-gated gears and FOMO (fear of missing out) are big problems in heRO. Over the last year, we're slowly working towards this as we've released all old V4P gears to be in permanent quests or on monster drops from 2014 to 2020 gears. We've also slowly released contest-exclusive or event-locked gears in permanent sources, such as the Yin/Yang Headdress (previously Chinese New Year exclusives) in the Louyang Poison King quest line or the Resting Swan/Minstrel Song Hat (previously Art Contest exclusives) in Ferre's Playground instance dungeon. We also released Gacha gearboxes that are obtainable in-game so that, theoretically, you can get any holiday or V4P gear at any time, which is better than previously, when it was impossible to obtain at all. We acknowledge that many gears must be released and that the gacha box mechanics are not a great stopgap. However, we'll continue working towards this, especially for gears critical in some builds, such as Rudolph Hairband, Drops Muffler and Moon Rabbit Hat. We hope to have short quests for these released after the new client is out.
We ask all players for forgiveness and thank you for your patience in acquiring these gears.
Healing Item Rebalance
Also related to the above is the balance of healing items in heRO. We recognize that Rudolph Hairband is a big problem where it overshadows all brewed Condensed White Potions, Light White Potions, or any other source of healing items for its weight efficiency. After the new client is released, we anticipate a balance update for all healing items and healing-boosting gears with both buffs and nerfs in place. Boosts to healing or the ability to use cheaper healing items to accomplish what more expensive healing items can do should require sacrifices of combat stats or other opportunity costs. Like always, if any items are nerfed and cards are involved, we will offer de-cards to any affected items. However, oridecons/eluniums used to refine nerfed gears will not be compensated.
