you could say it's sort of like the Megaman ZX games, in where you go to one place to another and do things, not just move on from one stage to the next. It also has a good amount of secret things to find out, and has this RPG-esque trait where you check everything out, from fireplaces to drawers, and your weapons rise or go down in level depending if you get hit a lot or not.

I think what Proxyt meant is Axl or Bass in the Megaman series. They can't charge power shots, but they rapid fire and adjustable in 5 shooting directions in mid air or 4 directions on land.
