RE: Server down again - GM-Pandora - 09-27-2006

I wont be able to check until I get back from work.

If it's a problem with the re-direct again, try again in a few minutes.

What happens is that I got this little program that makes pandora.bounceme.net point to my IP (the ip of the server). When you launch hero it points to pandora.bounceme.net which in turn directs that to the server.

My IP changes from time to time, which is out of my control, it has to do with my provider.

Sometimes the program will take a little while until it updates and points to the new ip.

i thought static ip doesnt change?

i dont really know anything other than that there is this thing called static ip that doesnt change at all. i dont know much about computing.

not sure what static ip is either nor what doesnt change in static ip.

i am assuming also that anything other than 56k use static ip.

can i get an explanation on this topic or somewhere i can learn more about it. wikipedia doesnt help.

RE: Server down again - GM-Pandora - 09-27-2006

Somehow it changes, I'm on DSL, not cable like the previous hoster.

As far as I know, my provider resells the internet of another company, switching the internet back and forth between their users as needed, that's how they can afford to charge cheaper.

I don't know too much about it actually, if anyone has any idea on how to make it fully static without changing provider or how to update the re-direct faster, please let me know ^_^

I'm considering changing provider eventually, but it involves downtime and most likely complications, so for now, as long as this one supports the server ok I think I'll stick to it.

RE: Server down again - Rei Ayanami - 09-27-2006

well, i got this link from browsing on how to fix my azureus. it is a link to how to set static ip address. but then again i have absolutely no idea what i was doing. it solved my nat error, whatever that is.

http://www.portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm

it is for win xp tho, not sure if it will work on other things or whatever.

hope it helps.

Yeah, I went thru that guide when setting up the server, my lan ip is static, but not my wan ip. (I think?)
