Because the ones I've played he could shoot up and down while in air
you could say it's sort of like the Megaman ZX games, in where you go to one place to another and do things, not just move on from one stage to the next. It also has a good amount of secret things to find out, and has this RPG-esque trait where you check everything out, from fireplaces to drawers, and your weapons rise or go down in level depending if you get hit a lot or not.
