Gear Progression in heRO 2026
Abyss 4 Instance Gears
There's some questions about the gearing path in heRO, so let's answer some questions regarding the logic behind the gearsets from Abyss 4 Instance Dungeon
Dragon's Rage- generic garment belonging to the Draconic Power equipment set
Dragon Scale Boots- generic footwear belonging to the Draconic Power equipment set
Silver Dragon Orb- generic accessory belonging to the Draconic Power equipment set, though primarily for healing or for the holy armor enchantment
Purple Dragon Armor- generic armor belonging to the Draconic Power equipment set, though primarily for melee combat
Bone Dragon Mail- generic armor belonging to the Draconic Power equipment set, primarily for tanks on the front line
Black Dragon Robe- generic armor belonging to the Draconic Power equipment set, primarily for magic casters
Purple Ferus Card- unique card that fits in every slot to empower the Draconic Power set
Silver Acidus Card- unique card that fits in every slot to empower the Draconic Power set
Black Acidus Card- unique card that fits in every slot to empower the Draconic Power set
They serve as the "new baseline" for class generic gears from a popular spot, and their gears are readily available in the market. The goal is for them to be similar to how Tidal Shoes and Wool Scarf set the stage as the "default gears" you should be using once you transed back in 2007, when they were first released during pre-renewal. Similar to the dragon gears, they mostly invalidated old garments/footwear, as they were the default gears to use and easy to get, as every party levelled in Nameless Island when it was first released. The GM team considers Abyss 4 gears to satisfy this role: they are generic and powerful, with room to figure out how to maximize their benefits. However, they need to be used together to form that baseline, as they are pretty limited without reaching the minimum draconic power of 25.
In the future, defensive gears released will sacrifice the generic class element of the dragon gears, but trade their limited applications to tempt players to reach a point to break the draconic set for the specific powers provided by more restrictive gears, or gears that specifically target a particular build. Once again, this is similar to old Nameless Island updates where better garments/footwear prompt the breakage of the tidal combo when build-specific power ups are worth sacrificing the combo's 10% maximum HP bonus.
Powering Up Older/Custom Restrictive Gears
Following this train of thought, we will be revisiting some older defensive gears that are class-restrictive and updating them to meet 2026's new standards. Again, given how class-restrictive they are, they should provide more bonuses to justify spending cards and resources on only a specific build. This will happen in waves throughout future updates. For the upcoming first wave this Christmas, we'll limit the scope and keep buffs to armors, shields, garments, footwear, and some accessories. Headgears (except for 1) and weapons will not be buffed in the upcoming update, but they will be revisited in future 2026 updates.
Adjusting Gears to New Skill Buffs
We will also update some class-specific gears (including class sets) to accommodate skill changes since 2018. Some skills in heRO are updated with new custom effects or buffs, but the gears specifically meant to work with those builds do not reflect those changes yet. We are going to revisit some of those gears in waves so they complement the new effects. So keep an eye out for older specific gears that may also get new effects soon!
Gears scheduled for buff/revamp in Dec 2025
The following will be buffed in the next major release for Christmas, as an example of what do we mean by "class restrictive" gears. Notice how they are mostly equipment used by only 1 to 3 classes, or they are generic, but they are for a particular niche.

Feel free to also make suggestions to the GM team via our discord channel if you have any gears in mind that are class restrictive, and ought to be a little bit better to catch up to power creep through time.
What About This Class/Build
You will notice that the list of gears avoids anything related to Star Gladiators, Ninjas, Spear Knights, Spear Crusaders, and non-crit Whitesmith. These builds need support from the class's skill tree and need further rework (of varying degree). Items alone cannot really make these builds even niche playability. For these reasons, these classes may have to wait until further skill rework, or even new skills, to complement their supported build path. Suitable items will also be reworked/buffed accordingly when the skill changes come.
