Ah, but it doesn't have to. It would actually help grow the meta. Now if you want to Sniper and you know there might be champ competition (or an enemy high priest) you better bring a Professor to LP. So then they need to try to counter that. As long as people understand it's a game and a competition for MVP and don't get pissed off about it I think it's great fun.
Some of my favorite MVP competitions were actually over something as simple as GTB. Having a Prof, HWiz, WS, Creator, and Priest all there helping out to counter other teams (and then other teams bringing something new that we couldn't counter, and vice versa). Again, as long as people don't get too serious / angry / rage-y at each other it's all in good fun and (imo) makes things far more exciting.
EDIT: Garr (or other GMs) what would be legal in the following (admittedly weird) scenario:
Team A = High Priest / Champ
Team B = Solo Sniper (or Creator) and Prof
Team A is using a weird SW-Tank with HP while Champ slowly Asuras (let's pretend). Team B (even if they had a priest) could not Pneuma to stop the HP's SW, but let's say the HP drops a Pneuma one-cell behind the MVP. Thus the MVP is Pneuma'd but the priest can still SW where he's standing (see below: P = Pneuma, M = MVP, S = SW).
Code:
P P P x
P P M S
P P P x
So in this case the HP (who is somehow managing to keep up SW and Pneuma - let's pretend) is not doing anything illegal. However he is successfully using Pneuma to stop the Team B Sniper from competing. Would the Team B Prof be allowed to drop a Land Protector to stop Pneuma and, if so, is it really fair to punish him if he's off by one cell and gets rid of the SW? Isn't it also partially the priests fault for putting a "hostile" pneuma so close to his SW?
