RE: Old School RPG's

hahaha, no one has mentioned 7th Saga...shame on all of you! 7th Saga was sooooo hardcore! Ok maybe not, but still, one heck of an RPG, along with a lot of those mentioned already. FF6(3), Illusion of Gaia, Secret of Mana...really no need for me to mention them again. Though I will say no one mentioned the Ultima series either, although for me they didn't have that much impact as the more well known ones from square/enix etc. Oh i must say, FF5 was quite awesome as well, and although i only have been playing the much older rpg's for the NES in more recent years, they are quite good and i have enjoyed the remakes that were done (but i'll still sometimes go back and play the classics =D)

The first lesseon a revolutionary must learn is that he is a doomed man. Unless he understands this, he does not grasp the essential meaning of his life.
And thus he isn't a revolutionary if he doesn't understand.

<3 old snes game, when consoles had crappy graphic, they actually HAD to put a story (unless making a game after a popular tv show, movie, etc.)

RE: Old School RPG's

you know what's funny panda...we call them crappy graphics, but at the time, they were state-of-the-art graphics (even though televisions could send much clearer and better pictures, but that's beside the point) so really graphics had nothing to do with it, interest in an actual storyline with character and plot development were the all the rage back then, but sadly that trend didn't last very long Icon_sad

now i can't say that graphic quality hasn't been very influential because it certainly has, but there was no real need to lose the depth of plot and character development just to have a fancy, sparkly game.
