Well, the reason most people refer to them as limit breaks is as follows (note: i'm completely guessing at this and it reflects no official opinion but my own, and yes, the finishing move against Sephiroth is orgasmic, lol)
--- in FFVII the only thing you can do without materia, or those nifty consumed items, is to attack; which AC portrays quite well, i think (of course, i don't mind the DBZ/Matrix style combat).??With materia, you can cast the spells and summons, as portrayed by Kadaj and company.??Since Cloud was using no obvious materia, it is most logical that the special techniques displayed were Limit Breaks.??The thing is... that they do stand out, in opposition to the normal combat, and most of them are preceded by the flowy blue energy stuff (ignoring the fact that the Limit Break aura in the game was orange).
