Overview

Welcome to the world of costumes on heRO! Costumes are a form of cosmetic gear that characters can wear that give the visual appearance of the costume while also allowing that character to wear normal gear for the stats and card slots. In a character’s equipment window, there is a tab for costumes with corresponding location slots for costumes to be equipped at.

This guide serves as a reference to all known costumes currently in the world to the heRO community. All costumes are separated into categories based on their current means of acquisition. Most are available to get new at any time, while others are gated by time. The rarer and exclusive costumes may no longer be available new and as such can only be acquired when already existing through players if they have not faded away entirely.

To aid players in obtaining costumes, a starting point is linked for the source of each gear or costume where relevant. These are noted with a basic description of how a player can obtain the item. For categories with multiple sources, they are also broken down by whether they’re a monster drop, sold by a shop, crafted with materials, a quest reward, from an item box, event related, seasonal gears, or any combo thereof.

Disclaimer

For most hats and costumes listed on this page, there is only one way to get the item. However for where there is crossover in ways to get an item, only one source has been listed to keep this guide clean and find the best way to get it based on speed, difficulty, availability, and reliability between all sources. Many with additional sources have such listed when available on their entries on this wiki for customs or other sources for officials.

The costumes listed here show the slots that the costume version equips to. There are discrepancies between gear and costume versions of some hats. While the gear version of one item may take up the upper and mid slots, the costume version may take up just the upper, or the opposite, etc. Some costumes may use a slot that don’t make sense to their appearance.

Some costumes have different names between gear and costume versions in game, as well as different names further still when looking them up on other sources. Information and links provided are drawn from multiple sources based on availability.

This guide is dynamic. As time passes new costumes are often introduced to the world and previously exclusive hats may switch categories, showing a more available way to obtain them. Just the same, rarer or exclusive costumes may fade out of rotation. Some listed here have not been available in years.

This is not a complete guide to costumes. If any costumes are missing, broken, or need changes or details, feel free to edit this guide, post in the server Discord, or create a Support Ticket with the GM team.

Additionally, the GM Team is frequently open to adding more costumes from player feedback. Visit this thread on the heRO forums with your requests to see if they can be added to the world.

Costume Crafters

With over a few hundred options available, this category is the main way to get a costume. The method itself is simple – get your hands on the normal version of a headgear and take it to a costume crafter. With the base hat, a runestone catalyst, and some zeny, the crafter will attempt to make the hat into a costume version of the hat.

The finer details are that there are three crafters with their own unique list of costumes they can make, with some overlap on who can craft what. These three are the Faeheim, Lutia, and Nobility crafters. An important note is that there is a system for each crafter characters can utilize to boost their chances of success where a chance of failure in the crafting process is present. For the Faeheim and Lutia crafters, this is tied to a character’s reputation with that crafter. The Nobility system works differently in that a character must first be a member of the Nobility to use their crafting service, and their standing within it will further boost crafting success.

Quested

This category is a gathering of all costumes that can be obtained directly by completing a quest. Hop out into the world, complete the quest, and find yourself the owner of a fancy new costume.

These quests can vary as a standalone goal of receiving a costume or the costume thrown in as a part of other rewards with it. What the quests are is unique and can entail anything, ranging in challenge of what is required.

Currency

All costumes in this group are offered for sale to characters by vendors that trade in a currency tied to specific content in the world. Costumes from each currency are loosely thematic to the area they come from.

For the most part, the options require party play to be successful in. These are open to players in the form of dungeons, instances, events, mini games, and even the occasional old blue or purple box.

Seasonal

Throughout the year holidays come and go and also the chance to snag exciting costumes. With the holiday sometimes comes an event tied to the time around it ranging from a single day to possibly weeks.

Thematic costumes both new and old based on the holiday are often available by quest, hunting, chance, crafting, or zeny sale. These costumes also vary event to event in whether they can be obtained once or multiple times.

Seasonal events happening, their type and duration, and costumes tied to such are subject to change year to year. However, they can also be obtained from their respective holiday gear boxes. Outside of the holiday, these boxes are still obtainable, but it's much more difficult and often on a difficult MVP or quest.

Vote 4 Points

In the heRO community, there is an opportunity for players to show their support for the server by voting on a listing of servers to say they think heRO is the best! To thank players for their support, the server has a system that awards points to players for every vote. These points are then able to be exchanged for numberous prizes, including costumes.

Costume availability by this form of redemption has a level of time exclusivity by dividing costumes into groups by each month of the year for players to trade their points for. Separately, at any time of the year, players may trade points for a box containing a random costume (or chance of non costume hat) for a lesser amount of points.

Schematic Crafting

These costumes are crafted in a similar fashion to the costume crafters, but instead of needing a gear version of a headgear, a schematic is used. Each schematic contains the blueprints to craft multiple costumes specified to the type of the schematic.

Find a schematic to use for the associated costume and bring it to an expert in Caerulia along with runestones and zeny to begin. This method of crafting also relies on a character’s Faeheim reputation to boost success rates.

Trial and Chronicles of Heroes

Traditionally held on a monthly basis, the heRO GM Team hosts a form of server wide event for players known as the Trial of Heroes or Chronicles of Heroes with a chance to earn an exclusive costume. What this is varies wildly but often involves player allegiance and other recurring elements.

The Trial of Heroes event can contain tests of strength, skill, knowledge, teamwork, and luck. Players may be pitted against monsters, figure out puzzles, answer trivia, play team games, or compete against the opposing allegiance. This event may have a level requirement or take place as a novice event.

The Chronicles of Heroes event differs in its format as more of a mode to introduce new content to the server. In the past it has served as a medium to tell heRO’s custom and lore driven storylines. In more recent times it serves as a preview to new content with the arrival of custom regions, dungeons, instances, and more.

For participating in these events, a unique costume of the GM Team’s choosing is often up for grabs as part of the prize pool.

Contests

From time to time, heRO hosts creative contests with various prizes for participants, costumes being among them. Frequently this coincides with the release of new content or a push to boost the server.

Whenever there are new cards, a call for fresh loading screen art, character cut ins, screenshots, banners to promote the server, emojis for the server Discord, and other types, an art contest open to players often happens. Occasionally social media events to show off the server and draw new players also happen.

These creative events are a way for players to show off their talent while helping develop the server and as such the costumes are usually fancy and very exclusive.

Fairy Auction

Held monthly in the past, the currently dormant, GM hosted Fairy Auction is an event that players gather at to bid on very unique items. Available are a handful of recurring packs of items and costumes as well as eclectic lots up for grabs to the highest zeny bid.

Aside from the recurring items and varied lots, the Auction serves as a showcase of upcoming items for players to pick up early before they are released serverwide. Sometimes costumes shown here are exclusive and not released serverwide, with only one or a few of them in existence.

Costumes in this category are normally extremely rare and not available anywhere else.
